Boric-acid wash (15 grains to the ounce) and oxide-of-zinc ointment, applied in the same manner as the above.

It may be followed by a dressing of zinc ointment, or any other like simple emollient or unctuous preparation.

Soap and water used externally, followed by vaseline or zinc ointment, will usually relieve the accompanying irritation.

At the outset benzoated oxid of zinc ointment may be used with advantage.

Before putting on the sock, dress the sore with iodoform powder or zinc ointment.
