zwitter hypothesis zwit·ter hypothesis (zwĭt'ər, tsvĭt'-)
n.
The hypothesis that an ampholyteric electrode such as an amino acid, yields equal numbers of basic and acid ions at the isoelectric point, thus becoming a zwitterion.
