What are the citrus fruits?

The citrus fruits include the bergamot, citron, grapefruit, kumquat, lemon, lime, orange, pomelo, shaddock, tangelo, tangerine, and ugli. Citrus is the Latin name of the citron tree and this genus includes the above-mentioned fruits and their many varieties and hybrids. It appears that citrus fruits originated in northern India toward the eastern end of the Himalayas and the earliest known was the citron, which was cultivated by the 4th century BC. The orange and lemon did not reach Europe until the 12th or 13th century.
