recanalization re·can·a·li·za·tion (rē-kān'ə-lĭ-zā'shən)

  1. The restoration of the lumen of a blood vessel following thrombotic occlusion by restoration of the channel or by the formation of new channels.

  2. Spontaneous restoration of the lumen of an occluded duct or tube.
