atrioventricular node   (ā'trē-ō-věn-trĭk'yə-lər)  Pronunciation Key 
A small area of specialized cardiac muscle cells that conducts impulses from the sinoatrial node to the ventricles and initiates the contraction of the ventricles. It is located in the right atrium.
