any of several muscles on the outer side of the leg, the action of which assists in extending the foot and in turning it outward.

On the tibiotarsus, the peroneus and gastrocnemius muscles were measured.

The flexors of the toes, the tibialis posterior, and the peroneus longus are shortened to a less degree.

In man, two muscles constitute this region; they are the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis.

The peroneus longus arises from the external tuberosity of the tibia; towards the middle of the leg it is replaced by a tendon.

No serious changes are present except in the peroneus longus.
