Shittim

The appointed day for leaving Shittim has come, and Joshua, determined to lose no time, rises "early in the morning."

The host of Israel had been encamped for some time at Shittim on the east side of the river Jordan.

And here we had broad-water patches, in and out, inlaid on land, like mother-of-pearl in brown Shittim wood.

The timber of this tree was termed Shittim, translated by some as incorruptible wood.

Omitted from the above is the strange clause from Shittim to Gilgal, which appears to be a gloss.
