Now and then I caught a glimpse of a European, cool and comfortable in topee and white linen.

It was the captain who spoke, a bluff, hearty man, who looked oddly out of place in white linen and a solar topee.

He was dressed in white from top to toe, carried a big umbrella, and wore a broad-brimmed solar topee upon his head.

Surely we have seen that eye and brow before, although the beard and solar topee do much to disguise the man.

It resembled rather a swollen plum pudding in a very large dish, than a respectable sola topee.
