Vila

In an Illyrian story, a Vila is by a youth found one morning sleeping in the grass.

He pulled out one of her hairs, whereupon the Vila vanished.

Now the horse was a Vila, and he said to them, “Have no fear; you have no need to hasten.”

If ever you should fall into any trouble, you have only to call, ‘Vila, stand by me!’

The Serbian Vila, so conspicuous in Serbian song and story, may be roughly defined as a guardian angel.
