para, preposition:
for

You’ll already know that para is used in a lot of different contexts and often translates as for.

El paquete era para mí.
The parcel was for me.

Tengo muchas tareas para mañana.
I’ve got a lot of homework to do for tomorrow.

There are a couple of rather different ways in which para is used that it’s worth getting to know. In the structure no estar para... followed by a noun or pronoun it means not to be in the mood for...:

El jefe no está para bromas.
The boss isn’t in the mood for jokes.

Hoy no estoy para nada.
I’m not in the mood for anything today.

Si alguien llama, no estoy para nadie.
If anybody phones, I’m not in.

Para also expresses your attitude or opinion about something:

No es importante para nosotros.
It’s not important for us.

Para mí, que se ha arrepentido de lo que dijo.
In my opinion he regrets what he said.
