cuarto, adjective, pronoun:
fourth

Once you’ve mastered the basic numbers in Spanish, it’s useful to get to learn the ordinal numbers, such as cuarto, fourth.

España ocupa el cuarto lugar.
Spain is in fourth place.

en el cuarto piso
on the fifth floor, on the fourth floor

la cuarta parte of something is a quarter:

la cuarta parte de las mujeres mexicanas
a quarter of Mexican women

Remember that often when English uses an ordinal number, Spanish doesn’t. This is very important for dates. So, it’s:

el cuatro de julio
the Fourth of July

using cuatro - literally four - not cuarto.
