Pareja is a word that people commonly use to talk about a person who is in a relationship, particularly if they don’t want to specify whether they’re married or not.
tu pareja ideal
your ideal partner
Nos presentó a su pareja.
She introduced us to her partner.
It’s also used to mean a partner in sports, dancing and so forth.
su pareja habitual de dobles
his usual doubles partner
Pareja also refers to both people in the relationship - a couple.
Algunas parejas prefieren no tener hijos.
Some couples prefer not to have children.
las parejas casadas
married couples
Había muchas parejas mayores bailando.
There were lots of older couples dancing.
