cuenta, noun:
bill
La cuenta - the bill - is probably one of the first words you learn in order to get by when visiting most Spanish-speaking countries.
You might ask:
¿Nos trae la cuenta, por favor?
Can you bring us the bill, please?
Or the waiter or waitress might say:
En seguida le traigo la cuenta.
I’ll bring you the bill right away.
Remember, though, that in Spain it only means bill in a restaurant. A gas bill, or a bill for repairs is una factura. In Latin American countries cuenta works for both meanings.
