mirar, verb:
to look

As seen in an earlier Word of the Day, mirar is the basic word for looking at someone or something. You use the form mirarse in a couple of ways which it’s worth remembering.

mirarse al espejo
to look at onself in the mirror

Cuando me miro al espejo, me parezco estupendo.
When I look in the mirror I think I look fantastic.

When people look at each other, you also use this reflexive form.

Nos sentamos, nos miramos, nos cogemos las manos, pasa el tiempo.
We sit down, we look at each other, we take each other by the hand, time passes.
