preparativos, plural noun:
preparations

Very often nouns ending in -tion in English have a Spanish cousin ending in -ción with the same meaning, for instance:

la revolución industrial
the Industrial Revolution

But you can’t translate all words ending in -tion in English into a Spanish word ending in -ción. For instance, the word for preparations is preparativos.

Se ultiman los preparativos de la boda.
Preparations for the wedding are being finalized.

You often use para in front of the noun you are making your preparations for:

un retraso en sus preparativos para la salida al exterior
a delay in preparations for her trip abroad
