quemar, verb:
to burn
You can use quemar with a grammatical object to mean to burn:
Un incendio quemó todo el bosque.
A fire burned the entire forest.
La mucama me quemó la camisa con la plancha.
The maid burned my shirt with the iron.
Es muy económico quemar los CDs.
It’s very cheap to burn CDs.
You can also use it without an object, to say that something is very hot. For instance, in a restaurant the waiter might warn you:
¡Cuidado!, que el plato quema.
Be careful, the plate’s very hot.
You use quemar to describe the heat of the sun too:
¡Cómo quema el sol!
The sun’s really scorching!
