jabón, noun:
soap

Though they look very different, jabón and soap are related. They both ultimately come from the ancient Germanic word saipōn, which the Romans turned into sāpo, which in turn became modern Spanish jabón.

una pastilla de jabón
a bar of soap

jabón en polvo is laundry detergent, or British washing powder.
