soap
Though they look very different, jabón and soap are related. They both ultimately come from the ancient Germanic word saipÅn, which the Romans turned into sÄpo, which in turn became modern Spanish jabón.

a bar of soap
jabón en polvo is laundry detergent, or British washing powder.
