momento, noun:
moment, minute
Un momento corresponds to many uses of moment in English. For example:
La miró un momento.
He looked at her for a moment.
But notice the Spanish phrase en este momento:
En este momento no tengo ganas.
At the moment I don’t feel like it.
Un momento is also very useful when you need to tell someone to hang on for a minute:
Espere un momento.
Wait a minute.
You can even use it in the diminutive form momentito, especially on the phone:
Un momentito, por favor, que lo busco.
Just a minute, please, I’ll go and get him.
