nocturno, adjective:
night; evening

Some English and Spanish words share the same Latin roots but are used rather differently. While nocturnal in English is literary or technical, Spanish nocturno is the standard word to talk about things happening or being open at night.

la vida nocturna de Buenos Aires
nightlife in Buenos Aires

un local nocturno
a night club

un club nocturno
a nightclub

el servicio de autobuses nocturnos
the night bus service

Nocturno also applies to things which we think of as being in the evening, such as clases and cursos.

Por esa época iba a unas clases nocturnas.
At that time he was going to evening classes.
