palabra, noun:
word

As with English word, palabra comes into many phrases. For example, when translating, you need to be careful not to translate word for word.

No siempre hay que traducir palabra por palabra.
You shouldn’t always translate word for word OR literally.

Another useful phrase is en una palabra, in a word, in a nutshell:

La casa es preciosa, nueva, muy cerca del pueblo y la playa, en una palabra, espectacular.
The house is beautiful, new, very near the town and the beach: in a word, spectacular.
