madrugar, verb:
to get up early
Whether you have to get up early for a special reason or are an early bird, this is the word you need.
No soporto madrugar.
I can’t stand getting up early.
Usted debe madrugarmucho.
You must be an early riser.
Madrugar is also used in a well-known proverb:
A quien madruga, Dios le ayuda
The early bird catches the worm, or literally, God helps him who gets up early.
A stock reply that Spanish-speakers might well make is:
No por mucho madrugar, amanece más temprano.
Time will take its course. or literally, For all your getting up early, day won’t break any earlier.
