He directed that to Vizcaino should be given the command of the expedition.

The Cross which Vizcaino had planted in 1602 was found decked with skins and shells.

Under this order, Vizcaino applied to Viceroy Velasco, and received his permission to make the journey.

The results of the expedition did not add to Vizcaino's reputation, but he made a most glowing report of his discoveries.
