Two rather remarkable fishes are the climbing perch and the archer-fish.

The most celebrated example of this faculty, however, is the climbing perch (Anabas scandens) of India.

Like Anabas, the climbing perch, it possesses a suprabranchial accessory respiratory organ.

The climbing perch of India, notwithstanding its name, is not a true perch, but belongs to quite a different family.

But the climbing perch has a kind of cistern in its head, just above the gill-chambers, which contains quite a quantity of water.
