AesopGk. Aisopos, semi-legendary 6c. B.C.E. fablist. Aesopic is attested from 1927 in ref. to Soviet literary censorship: it refers to an obscure or ambiguous writing, often allegorical, which disguises dissent. The term (Rus. ezopovskii, 1875) arose under the Tsars and the style was used by Russian communists.
