beaker 
1348, from O.N. bikarr or M.Du. beker "goblet," probably from M.L. bicarium, probably a dim. of Gk. bikos "earthenware jug" (perhaps a borrowing from Syrian buqa "a two-handed vase or jug"). Form assimilated to beak.
