A transition layer or boundary between two different materials or between physically different regions in a single material, especially:
1. A connection between conductors or sections of a transmission line.
2. The interface between two different semiconductor regions in a semiconductor device.
3. A mechanical or alloyed contact between different metals or other materials, as in a thermocouple.

1. To bring together, literally or figuratively; to place in contact; to connect; to couple; to unite; to combine; to associate; to add; to append.
