Motagua

There were many engineering difficulties to be overcome, the chiefest of which was the bridging of the Motagua River.

In mid-July of the same year they were calling sporadically from temporary ponds in the lower Motagua Valley.

Our road lay over the range of hills which bounds the Motagua valley on the north side.

From it a bridle-path ran over the Sierra de las Minas to the valley of the Motagua and further on to the capital.

Navigation is possible on the Motagua for about 75 miles from the mouth.
