The term numdah or numnah, which is applied to felt saddle-cloths, is derived from a Hindustani word that signifies ‘felt.’

Blanket is worn under the saddle, with a numnah between it and the horses back to prevent its becoming wet and sour with sweat.

It consisted of a wooden frame so constructed that a padded numnah could be fastened to it.
