The branch of Judaism that insists on the keeping of the Jewish law, or Torah, in its entirety; orthodox means “correct in teaching.” A few generations ago, the Orthodox was the dominant form of Judaism; today, fewer than one-fifth of Jews belonging to Jewish congregations in the United States are Orthodox.
