An Americanism dating back to 1810–20; after surname of grower, Pennsylvania orchardist

We used to come over here last fall and get pearstheres a dandy seckel tree back there.

The San Saba may be regarded as a standard of quality among pecans, as the Seckel is among pears.

This was a hybrid produced from the crossing of Seckel with Belle Lucrative.

The pears are also more brightly colored than those of Seckel.

It was obtained by crossing Seckel with Gansel Bergamot, whence its name.
