Alston had last seen Prince at midday, when the two walked to the store together.
“I believe in justice, I believe if you do something wrong, you should have to pay,” Alston said.
Alston now sat looking at photos of the boy he keeps in his phone.
“He was just beginning to understand things, just beginning to come into his own,” Alston said.
“He loved action figures: Captain America, Spiderman, Batman, Superman,” Alston reported.
So Alston did now light his cigarette and they went on smoking.
She opened the door and there saw Alston Choate, his feet on the table, reading "Trilby."
"I have been unpardonably slow in coming to you," said Alston.
But Alston Choate, she saw, was not going to find it a road to prettiness.
Mr. and Mrs. Alston recollected meeting George at the Baillys', and they were kind about his football.
