The growth of bog moss has played a large part in the formation of peat.

There are many varieties of bog moss, and some of them have now been put to practical use in our field hospitals.

This is a beautiful plant growing, as Figure 172 shows, on the lower dead portion of the stems of bog moss or sphagnum.

The Bog-moss (Sphagnum) overruns them, and renders them barren.

It would be very desirable to discover some means of eradicating the Bog-moss.
