Origin:
< Neo-Latin (Linnaeus) < Greek kēro- cero- + Neo-Latin -pegia, perhaps < Greek -pēgia, noun derivative of pēgnýnai to stick in, fix in; perhaps to be taken as “candle holder”; compare Linnaeus' specific name candelabrum
