The chain-wheel or free-wheel clutch is screwed on the end of the hub-shell, with a right-hand thread.

The chain-wheel at the crank-axle is usually detachably fastened to the right-hand crank.

Fig. 14 is a sectional view of the “Hub” two-speed gear, the chain-wheel or free-wheel clutch being omitted.

When the central pinion is held stationary the hub is driven at a less speed than the chain-wheel; the gear-ratio is 100 : 76.2.

I found the lock ring of one chain wheel missing altogether, and the sprocket half-way unscrewed from its shaft.
