Cultural Dictionary
Dienbienphu [(dyen-byen-fooh)]

A place in Indochina, now Vietnam, where Vietnamese communists decisively defeated French forces in 1954. The defeat led to the French withdrawal from Indochina. (See Vietnam War.)
