Ennis

county town (seat) of County Clare, Ireland, on the River Fergus. Incorporated in 1612, it is now controlled by an urban district council. A Franciscan abbey, founded about 1242, is a national monument. Ennis, on the main Limerick-Galway road, is the principal rail and road junction of County Clare and has flour mills and textile, imitation jewelry, electronics, and engineering industries. Pop. (2006) 20,142.
