the right of the oldest member of a coparcenary to have first choice of share upon division of the inheritance.

Origin:
1600–10; < Medieval Latin aesnecia, Latinization of Old French ainsneece, ainsnesse position of an older brother or sister, derivative of ainsne elder (compare Latin antenātus (one) born before another)
