Fayum

In Fayum, the native city of Saadiah, there lived at that period only twenty Jewish families.

South-west of the Fayum, and forming part of the mudiria, is the Gharak depression.

At the end of 1819 they left Fayum with a few companions, and entered the Libyan desert.

The capital of the Fayum, Medinet el-Fayum, has a population of 37,320.

At Cairo and in the Fayum, attar of roses and other perfumes are manufactured.
