In the seventh century of the Christian era a Finno-ugric tribe reached the banks of the Danube.

In the east and north-east they were displaced by the Finno-Ugrian peoples who immigrated later.

This conclusion has not, however, met with general acceptance and the affinities of Basque with Finno-Ugrian cannot be overlooked.

Modern scientific knowledge of the Finno-Ugrians and their languages was founded by these two authors.

In culture and habits they resemble the Finno-Ugrian tribes, and there seems to be no adequate reason for separating them.
