outer borough of London, part of the historic county of Middlesex. It lies in the valley of the River Thames, on the western periphery of the metropolis. It was made a borough in 1965 by the amalgamation of the former metropolitan boroughs of Brentford and Chiswick and Heston and Isleworth with the Feltham Urban District. Hounslow includes the areas of (from west to east) East Bedfont, Hatton, Lower Feltham, Feltham, Hanworth (in part), Cranford, Norwood Green (in part), Hounslow, Heston, Osterley, Isleworth, Brentford, and Chiswick.
