Iblis

Whereupon God changed the jinnee into a devil, and called him Iblis or Despair.

Iblis rebelled against Allah and was expelled from Paradise.

But fire from Heaven consumed them, as thou hast seen, and now they are further punished in the fires of Iblis.

But Iblis, Lanzelet's wife, is not present: she is languishing on account of his absence on a dangerous adventure.

He was carried off by Iblis,––the porter and a few Greenbacks assisting.
