noun Pathology.
a chronic, usually fatal disease occurring in tropical areas of Asia and the Western Hemisphere, characterized by irregular fever, enlargement of the spleen, anemia, and emaciation, caused by the protozoan Leishmania donovani.
Also called Dumdum fever, visceral leishmaniasis.


Origin:
1880–85; < Hindi, equivalent to kālā black + Persian āzār disease

Kala-azar is always a great word to know.
So is quincunx. Does it mean:
a scrap or morsel of food left at a meal.
an arrangement of five objects, as trees, in a square or rectangle, one at each corner and one in the middle.
