Kasugai

city, Aichi ken (prefecture), Honshu, Japan. It lies just northeast of Nagoya, the prefectural capital. Army arsenals were constructed nearby in 1939, and many of their workers were moved into the city. By 1945 the population of Kasugai had reached 60,000. After World War II the land used by the military was converted to industrial use; factories now include a large paper-manufacturing plant. Peach plantations are located in the alluvial plains of the Toki River to the east. Kasugai is also a residential suburb of Nagoya. Pop. (2005) 295,802.
