an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, on the W coast of Scotland, leading to the Caledonian Canal.

The former term denoted that portion of the mainland between Loch Linnhe and Glenelg.

The island lies near the south end of Loch Linnhe, and at a short distance from the mainland of Argyllshire.
