Pad·u·a   (pāj'ōō-ə, pād'yōō-ə)   
A city of northeast Italy west of Venice. An important cultural center during the Middle Ages, it was known for its artistic and architectural works by Giotto, Mantegna, and Donatello. Galileo taught at its university from 1592 to 1610. Population: 210,000.
