a method for detecting errors in data communications or within a computer system by counting the number of ones or zeros per byte or per word, including a special check bit (parity bit), to see if the value is even or odd.
Also called odd-even check, redundant check.

Parity check is always a great word to know.
So is third-party software. Does it mean:
computer output displayed on the screen of a video display terminal, as opposed to hard copy
software created by programmers or publishers independent of the manufacturer of the hardware for which it is intended
