1.
to represent (speech) in writing by means of a system in which individual symbols correspond regularly with speech sounds.
2.
to increase the regularity of correspondence between sound and symbol in (a writing system): a proposal for a new system of phoneticized English spelling.
Also, especially British, phoneticise.
