a Greek island in the SW Aegean Sea, in the Cyclades group: gold and silver mines. 28 sq. mi. (75 sq. km).

Gold abounded in the Levant, and it was obtained in considerable quantity in the island of Siphnos, and also from Pangaeus.

The treasury of the people of Cnidus (or perhaps Siphnos) is in style some half a century later (see fig. 17).

And Diphilus of Siphnos pronounces plums to be juicy, digestible, and easily evacuated, but not very nutritious.
