The Lighter is a small, rough, clumsy species of coasting-vessel, usually of the sloop rig.

The above constitute the main spars and sails of a boat of the sloop rig.

A sloop rig without topsail is called a jib and mainsail (Fig. 149).

In single-handers under 20 feet top measure the sloop rig will work very decently.

There is the cutter rig, yawl rig, sloop rig, and the ketch rig.
