Sois·sons   (swä-sōɴ')   
A city of northern France northeast of Paris. An ancient Roman town, Soissons was long the scene of conflict, including Clovis I's defeat of the Roman legions (A.D. 486) and heavy bombardment during World Wars I and II. Population: 28,600.

Soissons

city, Aisne departement, Picardie region, northern France. The city is situated along the Aisne River in a rich agricultural valley surrounded by wooded hills. Although the city was severely damaged during World War I, and to a lesser extent in World War II, most of the old buildings for which it is famous have been restored.
